Hi Jay & all, sorry I don't have any pics, but I do have a Nuovo GS, NR &
SR RD's here, I played around, measured, looked & weighed. It is all
doable, the basic upgrade would be to swap out the mounting bolt, bottom
bolt & cage/pulley assy from a NR, this would save approx 15 grams maybe
even up to 20, my scales only go to 5 grams.
If you really wanted to Hot rod it you could either swap out lighter SR
bolts, or even OMAS alloy items, even Arnold ones.
For shifting purposes you would swap out the pulley plates to SR ones as
they lower the pulley centres for better shifts.
One would ask why, well while the NR has classic looks, the NGS has a
nice smooth finish to it that the NR does not. One would want to know
wether the Hot rod upgrade was for weight purposes or for shifting
purposes, or even just for looks.
I suspect the carcus weight of the NGS is more than the NR, and unless
going to the extreme of swaping out with SR, a real weight reduction
would be small.
The upgrade to SR would cost, but then again if you obtained a worn out
SR with good plates & bolts, it could be done at not much cost.
If I was perverted enough, opps I am, I would do it all myself and take
a photo, and weight it all up & see how it goes, I guess if there are
enough requests I would take it to work & have a play, I don't have a 6mm
