I thought that war was in 1776, and I thought it was over the tax on tea, not the Queen's (at that time the King's) English. I think you have to concede to the English that they are the worlds foremost authorities on the English language, just as we Americans are the authorities on baseball and jazz. And even a Scotsman probably knows a bit about the English language.
