Subject: [CR]AVA stems

Hi List, As far as the lower level AVA stem.As originally fitted to an AO-8 and UO-8.Or maybe I should call it the "open-faced"as the pinch bolt is vertical and in the front. What I have seen these endure.I would say my experience has been outstanding. In fact one is being brutalized by an adolescent on an AO-8 that I built into a town bike.I am afraid the rear dropouts will fail before this particular model stem.I never suspected this old bike would see BMX,or severe off road duty. But it is,and I guess I'll tell his grandad that they are going to have to find another mechanic after I blacksmith the rear dropouts back together and reinforce them with large washers.I was very hard on my AO-8 but never trashed dropouts.I did bend the fork though! I think the PX-10 stem is the one with a bad reputation.I cannot say if it is deserved or not.It is open(oval-shaped) at the rear. And quite unique looking. Harris Spracher;Waynesboro,Va
