I own the green #2 Ephgrave on the CR site as well as the black #1. I tried to check their serial numbers but had a very difficult time reading them under their thick coating of paint. (They were both repainted before being shipped to the US.) My best guess is that the green one is 3490 LE while the black one is 3351 LE but this could easily be wrong (particularly that first digit on the green one which, was not struck cleanly). As I recall, both were described as early 60's frames when I bought them.
I'm still collecting parts for both so that I can assemble them. My plans are to assemble the green one with British parts, as much as possible. I'm trolling for Chater Lea cranks, Benelux derailleurs and some good BH or equivalent hubs. The black one will use mostly Campagnolo components.

Can any Ephgrave owners give me a hand dating a frame. It has no transfers
or headbadge on it but I've been told it's an Ephgrave and it has the
characters LE 1899 under the bottom bracket. I'm pretty sure Les Ephgrave
wasn't building lightweights in the year before the 20th century so how do
you interpret that number. The frame is very similar to this one on Dale's
site: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/
