somewhat off topic, but Moots at one point (late 80's early 90's) made things called moots mounts, strap on cantilver bosses. They looked like a radiator hose clamp with a canti stud on it. We used them to 'upgrade' U brake frames to accept the hot 3D Violet Grafton speed controllers.
