I'd like to nip this in the bud. My use of the term to describe the 'Masi' was not meant to disparage anyone. I used the term to refer to a knock-off, spin-off, or whatever term you want to use for something other than the original item. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery except when you factor in financial motives by association.

I might offer, for those who haven't read it, Ian Frazier's book, "On the Rez," where he gives an interesting take on being a "wannabe." Other than the book being a great read and totally off topic to this, it changed my mind about using "wannabe" as a completely disparaging term.
