Panaracer, Vitorria, IRC and Continential all still make excellent 27" tires, and you can still find Avocets around - not sure who made these. It's a bit tricky as the actual size of a given nominal size seems to be different for every manufacturer. I use a lot of IRC's in nominal 27 x 1, actual more like 22-630. For wider tires, Panaracer is probably the best value, although Conti and Vittoria aren't bad either.
