Picked up this thread late, so I got carried away with my inventory before realizing that the original author only wanted the top three. I would have the rank my favorites based on riding, because anything characteristic that doesn't make the bike ride better is just neat weirdness or eye-candy.

#1 '82 Marinoni. Peggy told me to be careful when I was placing the order because she said that having my wife's name engraved in one stay cap would mean rebrazing and repainting, if I ever left her. Both the frame and the wife are still fantastic. 25th anniversary in a few days. #2 '78 Raleigh Track. It's just so much fun to ride. #3 '75 Kydd Tandem. A strange, incredibly light beast made of 531 standard road and track tubing. Lots of fun to ride.

On-topic bikes scattered around the estate; 1938 Gachon (Montreal), restored, but too big for me, full chrome, 3-spd freewheel, alloy brakes and bars. 1940 Gachon, tourist model, 3-spd freewheel, complete and unrestored. I purchased both of these bikes from the couple who had owned them since new. 1957? Peugeot PH-55 unrestored, mostly complete. 1972 Schwinn Sports Tourer. Just finished restoration. http://biketoss.com/Barner/cycles. 1973 Schwinn Paramount P15, red, like new 1973 Raleigh Pro, Mink Blue/Silver trailer queen--low mileage, but treated poorly 1974 Raleigh Pro, Silver/Black low mileage, but cosmetically challenged 1974 Schwinn Paramount P13 white, low-mileage and clean. Country girl headed for the prom. 1975 Paul Kydd Tandem (never heard of him, I bet) 1977 Schwinn Paramount P10, red, purchased new, plan to make it a cyclocross bike! 1978 Raleigh Track (all parts from my trashed '73) 1978 Schwinn Paramount P15 Sky Blue Fleck, mint, wife's bike 1982 Marinoni custom

Possibly off-topic; Colnago Master, Columbus Gilco tubing, all Super Record, mint Bianchi Squadra (only bike I have that clicks) Bianchi Squadra frameset (a little larger than previous, should fit better when I get around to painting it and switching the parts over) Raleigh Team Professional frameset, Reynolds 753, red & blue, waiting for it to get warm enough outside to paint it.

Squeezed in amongst these are a few dozen OT bikes, ranging from 1892 to the mid '80s. mostly American iron, 3-speeds and a couple of mountain bikes.

OK I'm not in the same league as any of you folks, the only truly on-topic bike I own belonged to my father and is WAY too big for me to ride. Don't ask me how I ended up so short when my father is 6' 3", the only clue I have is that when I was a kid, the neighborhood milkman's nickname was "Stumpy".

Anyway, it's a 65 cm Peugeot PX-10 with mostly Nervex Pro lugs (somebody recently said '72 was the last year for the Pros... there must have been later "transitional" bikes because I had a '73 PX-10 with a Pro fork crown, BB, and seat lug, but plain HT lugs. My Dad's bike, bought a year later, had Pro HT lugs and seat lug, with plain BB and fork crown). I am in the process of cleaning it up to sell or trade towards a nice vintage frame.

So what on-topic bikes do I actually ride? <gulp> none, actually... unless you can count my two Masi's as KOF's (one is a beautiful '88 San Marcos Gran Criterium /Campy Chorus and the other is a pedestrian '93 Bilatto-built Gran Corsa).

I'm still looking for that perfect vintage Masi to buy that I can have a ball restoring and even more fun riding. It's been tough tho... I have very short legs and it seems that every Masi my size in the US is sitting in Brian's garage...

You may ask what I'm doing here since I don't own a stable of fine vintage machines... well, I loved those bikes when I was young and those machines were new, and I love them still. There is nothing I see in the bike shops these days that can come close in grace, beauty, or craftsmanship. But more importantly, the people on this list are some of the nicest and friendliest I've ever met, and many of you have become like family. Bless you all.

Hey all,

Should any here be keen on these be known that my current bid is my high bid & i am going no higher. I'll happily take them but my intention is in using them as trade bait for that elusive "dinner plate" version of the Harden's with no holes on the flanges.

The auction has been outed here already so no link is needed but below is the CR link containing the print ad for the hubs i desire (bottom of page - Oppy) - anyone got a pair? Even if not for sale please post pics to keep my blood runnin' till i find a set of my own.

There still some of us who ride sew-ups every day. Even my wife rides tubulars. I don't mind gluing on tires: I put on my gluing overalls and it takes me about ten minutes to glue on a tire. Studies show that tubulars get fewer flats than clinchers although I'm not absolutely convinced. Tubulars are often less expensive that clinchers especially Tufos but there are other brands like Schwabe. Large urban areas are plagued with debris especially glass. But if you live out in the country, I was expect clinchers and tubulars to last forever.

OK, here goes:

77 Vitus 83 Colnago 72 Raleigh International 80's Pogliaghi 81 Richard Sachs 80 Mondia 80's Della Santa Masi (San Marco -date?) Robin Hood cruisin' bike (thanks, Matt!) 80's Bianchi (Al's bike)

I couldn't possibly rank them, though there's one I grab first when I don't have time to think about which bike to take, and another I ride when my neck and shoulders are REALLY bothering me. However, all are ridden regularly (though not at speeds they were designed for yet (hope springs eternal...)), and are lovingly maintained and constantly admired by me. I have a small bike shop out back in our garage that is my quiet retreat. Though I have lots to learn, I am really having a great time with the whole classic bike thing.

The type of Harden hub that Ben refers to as "Dinner Plates" are commonly called "Bacon Slicer's" in the UK. I am not telling "Porky's"! Pork pies is cockney rhyming slang for lies.

Best wishes and be lucky. Michael Butler Huntingdon UK.
