I have 29 bicycles in my garage. My wife has 1. It is her favorite. What she likes about it? That it is off-topic and it has a big seat (the bike).
My (current) favorites are: Mid 80's Andy Gilmour (prettiest paint on any bike I have ever seen), early 80's Pog, and a 1971 Masi GC.
I saw the pics and read the story of R. Sachs' 1971 Masi. Stunning!
My story is a little different. I bought mine about 3 years ago from a high-end bicycle dealer in town. He had taken it on trade, and I bought it for $250. He helped me obtain a correct decal set for $50, and an old friend who has painted bicycles and motorcycles for years did the paint for $280. I cleaned up the original components and put it together one afternoon. With new cables and cloth tape it comes to under $700. It isn't an original color (it's silver-gray), but it is still a beautiful bike, and a great ride. Does it look as pretty as the Richard Sachs project? Not even close. But at least I get to ride it whenever the mood strikes me-like maybe in about an hour....
