Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2004 01:16:32 EST The brass and green badge in question is a 1950s Masi badge remake. As Brian said, they are still available in Italy. Previously, Alberto Masi had a photo of a large version of this badge mounted on a wooden plaque on his MASI website.
2 of these green and brass badges are mounnted on the 1954 Alex Clark Masi at vintagevelos.com One badge is on the head tube and a 2nd smaller badge is on the seat tube.
Here in Italy, there seems to be disagreement on which badge came first. Was it the green and brass model or the more familiar black and silver Masi Speciale model?
Perhaps, they were used concurently in the 50s. In a discussion with some Italian collectors, they claimed that the Masi Special Black and Silver badge was used 1st in the late 1940s. According to their conventional wisdom, a few years later, circa 1950, the green and brass badge 1st appeared. They claim that in the mid 50s the green and brass badge disappeared, and that the black and silver Masi Special type Badge once again became the official logo for Masi.
Anyone have an opinion on which badge came 1st? Scott Davis near Milano, Italia
