An old article in 'Winning' describes his 60 or so bikes from 1818 on that pretty much all surpass the imagination...
I think the velophile's issue of space can be pretty much solved by boxing the bikes. With an 8' ceiling you can pile them up 3 boxes high; at just 8" wide per stack of three bikes you easily have 100 bikes + fitting in the space of a 1-car garage!
I've limited myself to 43 bikes (no good reason, just my favorite number). If I get a new one, that means another has to go. Here they are, w/ my apologies for straying off-topic:
