There is nothing new in this game. Whilst having a clear out I came across this old catalogue of my Dad's. Frames for 1950 "The Fontalloy" a unique frame, completely in duralumin, and weighing only 6.25 lbs. complete with chainset and handlebar extension! The frame tubes are joined by an entirely new electrical welding process, making in effect, a one piece frame, without lugs. Design is the very latest, with "square frame"- that is, seat tube and top tube equal, giving a comfortable riding position, without the need for an over-long handlebar extension. All such parts as gear lever boss, brake and gear cable eyes, are welded on, permitting the latest bare-wire technique of assembly (lighter and more efficient than the usual run of cables). What is really unique about this frame is the novel combined fork stem and handlebar stem of the fontalloy, all in one piece just like the modern Aheadset. This frame complete with novel extension, Stonglight De Luxe headset and Stronglight cotterless chainset was a whopping £26-0-0 in 1950! There were also two conventional steel frames in there range "The Gloria" and "Sterling" which were considerably cheaper. Like I said its all been done before. My apologies for including this non steel frame but I thought it was of significant historic importance.

Best wishes and be lucky. Michael Butler Huntingdon UK.
