ive got well-nigh 100000 miles on various sturmey-archer aw hubs on my work bike, and when ive not had geniune s-a oil available to me, ive mostly turned to sewing machine oil, which has worked just dandy.

ive used all sorts of lubricants when stuck with a squeaky or rough s-a hub and neither of my 2 preferred oils anywhere within reach, but i cant say id recommend anyone else doing the same thing :) most everything seems to either be too thick and goopy, or leave yucky residues that cause more annoyance than they clear up...

cant say id mind running into a "family-size" container of s-a oil... im on another round of sewing machine oil right now, due to a lack of the former...
