They came as framesets to the US, so anything you want to put on it would be fine. If it were mine, I'd go all Japanese, but that's just me. (As an aside, I like my French bikes all French, my Japanese bikes all Japanese, my Italian bikes all Italian, and my English bikes a total mixture of French, Italian and English parts, again, just my tastes.)
As for the "hideous pantographing" shown in the catalog? To me that complements the cartoon Zunow frame graphics and to my eye is exceedingly charming in a very Japanese way.
