i think the original post and my reply to it was about:

"...at what point did a Pogliaghi cease being a Pogliaghi?",

as asked by chas. andrews. >>

Hello all,

I am a fan of Pogliaghi. The main club guy had a lovely one from the 1960's when I was a lad. Certainly the nicest bike in town for a long time.

In early September of 1983 I was in France riding the Paris Brest Paris, Lemond was in Zurich trying on rainbow stripes and some New York based American riders I was riding with took the train to Milan for some great deals that a stronger dollar could find available.

As I recall they both returned with Pogliaghi framesets over their shoulder in the color of the day. It seemed they said they bought each frameset from Sante in the Pogliaghi shop. Price was around $200 USD for each frame but a dollar was almost well over twice as strong as it had been in that era and maybe over three times as strong as it is now. Yes, friends, it really was better in the good old days, for a while.

Was he not alive then; or retired? Did I hear things wrong?

Yours in Cycling,

Gilbert Anderson
