Well gang, it's ever so close now. The excitement is in the air. The weather here today is absolutely gorgeous, cool and crisp, with crystal clear air and greenery everywhere (Sorry, all you Californians!) Vintage bike weather eh?
Now, on to important points:
1. As you may already be aware, I encourage those of you who are flying in to send bikes and whatever in advance via FedEx or UPS. Use the shop address below. We will stash you goods here at cycles de ORO and you can assemble the bikes yourself once you arrive. OR you can "engage" cycles de ORO staff to do that work for you at a modest (?) price. If you need us to assemble a bike, PLEASE send it soon, like tomorrow, as we are very busy this time of year and may have trouble with last minute jobs.. Also, PLEASE clearly mark on the outside of your box (s) "CIRQUE" so we know what it is .. We get many parcels incoming and we need to know what is arriving...
2. At 4 PM, Friday afternoon, April 30, for CR listees only (& their guests!), there will again be a gathering at my house for a "lawn party" of sorts. I am still seeking some sort of entertainment so stay tuned. (Anyone have ideas?) This map, <A HREF="http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Events/Cirque/Cirque_04/Cirque04_map1.htm">2004 Cirque map</A> has an unidentified red dot out toward the airport, on Fleming Road. That's my house! I will also have a more detailed map, with bike friendly routing... I think it's about 6 miles.. Can anyone who rode out last year confirm?
3. Themes... Please remember that the "theme" each year is just to add some fun and focus but the Cirque is hardly exclusive to that theme! Any vintage bike is OK. We did have a bit of an excess number of bikes last year, filling up the space rapidly, so going forward we are urging you all to look at quality rather than quantity! I would hate to have a situation where the Cirque becomes a "juried show" (being screened for acceptance ahead of time.) Just keep saying "Quality over Quantity!"
4. Out of towners... I have and will happily send to you a Greensboro brochure with maps, etc. I can high light the spots where things are happening, etc. Send me your snail mail address post haste and I will send one out to you..
5. Finally, as a wonderful means to support the Cirque, Ken Toda will again set up a photographic studio for capturing images of your fine bikes. For a paltry sum he will take X number of shots of the bikes, and burn them onto a CD that you can take home with you. This is just great service and dirt cheap, so thanks Ken. If you want to set up an appointment early, contact Ken at huemax@aol.com
6. Astute attendees noticed this so I will confirm.. the Saturday, May 1 seminars will be in their same location as the last two years.. We thought we would have to move them, but things worked out!
On the agenda are presentations by: - Taliah Lempert, artist, NYC - Josh Slawta, Landshark bicycles, Oregon - Bill Boston, retired frame builder & Fit expert, Delaware - Patrick Brady, Asphalt magazine, California + some surprises...
That's all for now folks, hope to be seeing most of you soon! Those that cannot come.............. so sorry!!! <G>
