James made some wonderful bicycles and tricycles over the years and they also made their own unique gears. Stratton is correct in saying that they produced motor-cycles as well. What is not generally known about their motor-bikes is that they were used for pacing on our tracks. I well remember seeing them in action at Herne Hill in the 1950's, painted in the James red and the rear wheel enclosed in a spat with the words "The famous James" written on it.
