How to re-cable your old bike

You need: 1 lead soldering pot. 2. Lead solder 3. Flux

The leads ends from the old cables need to be reused or replaced. As Phil said, Motorcyle distributor stock a variety of ends. You can also make your own (for making your own cable ends, see chapter two). If you have the original cable, drill through the ends where the old cable is. Counter sink the side which the cable will not come out. From the cable side of the end (not the countersunk end), insert the cable through the end. Fray the end of the cable, so that it will fill up the countersunk end of the end. Pull the cable so that the frayed end is in the countersunk hole. Dip the cable end in flux. Dip the cable end in your preheated solder pot. Let cool...

If you send me your old cables, I will re-cable them for a small fee. chris ioakimedes I still have and ride old motorcycles in Fairfax California -----Original Message----- From: classicrendezvous-bounces@bikelist.org [mailto:classicrendezvous-bounces@bikelist.org] On Behalf Of Philcycles@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, May 19, 2004 7:33 AM To: classicrendezvous@bikelist.org Subject: Re: [CR]straddle wire / cable ends question (again!)

They're lead. But check the old motorcycle shops first. Many ends are available there. Phil Brown Used to have old motorcycles in San Rafel, Calif.
