As a graduate of Ohio University, I spent 5 years (including grad school) in Athens. It was only slightly after graduating that I began riding lightweight bikes. I don't remember any good bike shops in Athens then, which was just before the start of the US bike boom, but maybe it's just that that was during the few years of my life when I was not cycling. Certainly remember the hills, though. A couple were in the middle of campus and were so steep that when covered with ice in the winter it was almost impossible to walk up or down them with falling on your backside. I can imagine that part of Ohio is great country for cycling, too bad I was there during my "lost years" in terms of cycling. Probably "lost" in some other ways too, but that's another story and an off-topic one.
