Great post , Raoul ! Small point about short , and long , pedal threads and "special pedals" . The first generation of Record pedals had short threads because that was the standard of the day . The reason there were short , and later , long threaded Record pedals was because steel cranks are normally thinner than aluminum alloy cranks , hence the length of the threads . The Record pedals were intro'd in 1956 and the Record cranks in 1958 .

Interestingly , quite a few pros were racing on steel cranks into the 1960s , not trusting the strength of aluminum alloy cranks .
