Greetings
I bought a set of these Reynolds decals from this same person last march. I highly suspected that these were not original but I was still willing to buy them even with the outrageous shipping and handling (The price seemed reasonable especially compared to NOS original stickers). I just like the way these decals look and I happen to have a bike with this tubing.
They have been sitting on my desk since I received them. I bought them
for an older Trek TX700 that I bought in January. The frame was
previously repainted by Richart Custom Painting, Centrailia, WA. (has
anyone heard of them?) The only decals were a TREK logo with white block
lettering on the down tube. (Not original and not very attractive, I've
removed those) and the painters name, number, and logo on the left
chainstay near the BB I left that on. Oh yeah and the Bike Works(Seattle
WA) shop sticker where I got the bike. http://www.bikeworks.org/
As I was touching up the chips in the paint with my perfect mixture of Testor's paint last Saturday I thought about the the Reynolds decals. I'd like to use them but I don't want to ruin them. How does one apply these water slide transfers? They have a backing that peels off exposing the back of the transfer. The front of the transfer is adhered to paper. Do I soak these in water and peel of the transfer from the paper then apply it to the tube? Like the decals that come in plastic model car kits? Does one have to put a clear coat of something over them like clear nail polish?
While I'm at it does anyone know where I might obtain a set of original looking trek downtube decals? The art deco looking ones with no background color. Cheap reproductions are ok.
Thanks
