Uh, actually, if you check the usual MSRP for a landed Colnago Super in 1973, from Berkeley Velosport, *without* the fancy parts, the price was 450-500, depending on options. Just a year later the price was about 100 bucks higher, if I recall correctly.

I'd be willing to bet that the bike on ebay would have cost about $550 from velosport, with those fancy parts as an option. Were the wheels original on that colnago? Probably not. So, to that extent, the bike may be worth a bit less. But not much..and those original wheels are relatively easy and cheap to reproduce to the point where no-one but a really finicky expert could tell the difference.
So, actually, it was a fair deal all 'round, especially when you consider the real-world rarity of those bikes in any condition at all, let alone one in pretty darned good condition.
