I'm planning a vintage bike ride from my house in Parkton Maryland on Saturday, July 17. Bring more than one bike if you wish. I sure like to see all that classic iron and so will others. Meet around 9-9:30 for the ride to go off at 10:00 am. It'll have some hills but I plan to make this ride even more fixed gear friendly than last year's and somewhere around 30 miles. The last couple of miles will be downhill. I'll be riding fixed and am not a strong fixed rider. There will be some big downhills so I recommend brake(s) for your fixed ride. North Baltimore County and South York County in Pa. is really pretty farm country, mostly rolling but I've got a pretty scenic and easy route picked out. We'll finish back at the house for an old fashioned weeney roast and contemporary refreshments. I'll have some sides, but if you wish to bring anything that would be great, though certainly not required.
I'm sure the TV will be on in the afternoon rebroadcasting a mountain stage of the tour. This is the special date of the showing in movie theaters of a live broadcast (unfortunately not available in our state). According to today's RBR newsletter "This is the third mountain stage, covering 217 km from Lannemezan to Plateau de Beille. It's described as 'a classic, technically challenging Pyrenean stage, consisting of first or second category climbs, one after another, before a final mega-ascent' to the finish." There's plenty of room on the deck for bicycle display and chat.
The weather's been great so far this summer and I'm expecting more of the same. I hope a lot of CR folks in the general area can come. I just printed up a cue sheet, a little debugging and we'll be good to go. Reply by e-mail and I'll make sure directions and other contact information will be available to all who are interested.
Cheers,
Dan Artley
