Refitting Tiffany and other Art Noveau lamps from gas/kerosine to electricity?
Converting classic cars from 6 to 12 volt?
Fitting mechanical antique clocks with quartz works, keeping the original dial and hands?
Hacking up a '57 chevy's dashboard to fit a modern CD player?
Adding a Dimarzio humbucking pickups to a '65 Strat?
Each requires the removal and/or modification of original parts which causes some degree of permanent damage yet is considerd by many to be an acceptable practice... and causes purists to shudder.
I think there are many shades of grey here... Personally, I think if someone wants to refit their mid 80's everyday rider with new components, I wouldn't criticize them for spreading the frame from 126 to 130. On the other hand, anyone who wants to do the same thing to a late 60's Cinelli should be lynched.
