Hi all have been asked by a grandson of one of our club members if I will search through my old mags to find some of his grandfathers time trialing results. They want them for his surprise eightieth birthday party.

Have also been asked what I know about George Brooks. Thought I would share the little I know on this maker with everyone.

George Brooks had a shop in Wordsworth Parade in Harringay London (circa 1950's). He was an ex pre-war Claud Butler employee. Left Butlers to go to GA cycles of Tottenham where he finished up as a manager, was their a number of years. GA were a big London lightweight maker. George then opened his own shop up in Harringay eventually selling up and re-opening in Bristol. His transfers normally bore his picture. They were good frames and very popular with the North London lads especially the Southgate C.C. The Bristol shop I am led to believe was a short lived venture in the west of England. Have been told that he finished up as a tobacconist in Bristol?

Claud Butler Avant Coureur. Whilst hunting through the old mags for the T.T. results spotted this. Claud Butler advert in April 21st 1948 Cycling for CB AC. This advert has a half-tone of the then new Avant Coureur frame. What is interesting in the picture is the AC frame appears to be devoid of head bi-laminates. You can clearly see the top-tube and down tube ones but there appears to be a complete absence of the head ones. Have had the linnen tester on it and can't see any trace in the half-tone dot.

Wasn't there a member trying to identify a very similar CB frame to this?

Your in cycling Mick.
