It doesn't have anything to do with Hyperglidosity...Shimano standardized on the 23.5 mm spline long before inventing Hyperglide.

If the modern Shimano unit doesn't fit, you need the old "Boss" type, 20 mm diameter, as listed on the bottom of that page.
