I should have written "third step", not triple step. Just as a half step gives you one half of the gear change in back, a third step would give you one third of the gear change that you would get in back.

So, for instance, if each shift in back was a 18% change in gear inches, each shift in front would be about a 6% change.

I'm just speculating, since I don't know what the total range he has in back, not do I know how many cogs he's got.
