Jerry Moos asked,

<<When did the large rivet Brooks Team Pro first appear? I know it was early 70's, but can anyone pin down the exact year? I just bought a mint 1973 all-chrome Paramount on eBay. I want to change the Unicanitor saddle to a Pro. I like the team Pro, but it may be just a year or so too new, so perhaps I should use the small-rivet Pro.>>

Gerry,

I don't know for certain when the large rivet pro first appeared, but I do remember seeing one on a Raleigh Pro in the summer of 1973. I really wanted the Pro but could not afford it, and "settled" for a Raleigh RRA instead. The Professional had the large rivet Brooks Pro saddle.

<<Second, what is the proper axle length of the Phil Wood BB for Campy NR? For C-Record? For modern Campy? Do the Phil "Campy" models just have more offset to the right than "regular" Phils, or is the taper angle different as well?>>

I just got a Phil BB back from them and the spindle measures 113mm. I also took some measurements (sectional thickness) from NR (post CPSC spindle) and C Record spindles, as well as the Phil, and here they are:

At the start (the end) of the spindle: NR (12.75mm); C-Rec (12.85mm); Phil (12.80mm);

At the mid-point of the spindle: NR (13.10mm); C-Rec (13.25mm); Phil (13.50mm);

At the shoulder: NR (13.60mm); C-Rec (13.50mm); Phil (13.90mm)

The offset is the same amount on both the NR and the Phil (5.0mm)

I do have a modern Record bottom bracket, but didn't dig it out at this time, but I suspect the measurements will be very close to both the NR and C-Rec. These measurements were taken a few months ago (with the exception of the Phil BB).
