Actually Dale, the quick release loops were not tubular but were bent from solid rod (I saw a busted one once). However, the steel skewers were hollow, a feature that, I believe, remains unusual to this day.
But my favorite feature of these hubs was the teflon-impregnated cloth seals, held in by a metal retainer and spring clip... they were easier to remove than any other sealed bearing I've worked on (the more usual rubber and metal disc type seal always seemed to bend, even if you were careful).
