Now I've been riding for a long time, but I still get surprised. Which is fun. While building up the Raleigh Competition as a fixed gear, I decided to substitute a sidepull for the original Weinmann CP. I guess I could have used a Universal longer-reach, or an Altenberger dual-pivot Synchron, but the parts box yielded up something that must have been spontaneously generated; I have no memory of ever seeing it before.
There is was, a genuine short-reach Weinmann 500 side-pull, with its very own, perfectly matching drop-bolt for the front. Sure, we all know about drop bolts for the Campy brakes, but it never occured to me that someone would invest in making a nice drop for this homely little Weinmann. I guess it is just a taste of funk to make me comfortable on a really much more elegant bike.
