Just overhauled an old Holdsworth for a friend and we are wondering just what we have here. It is a steel gray "Record" with world champion rings at the edge of the blue decals on top tube, seat tube and downtube. Weinmann brakes, Campy NR shifters and derailluers. The rear derailluer is steel with the chrome flaking off. It has stamped on the back, 13-36. The cottered crankset is 52-47 and is quite rusty too. The tooth number is circled The sew up wheels are upgrades I believe with Fiamme Red Labels and Campy Tipo hubs with 71 stamped on the cones. A Brooks B 5 saddle and beautifully engraved bars (with Eagles) round out this classic. +++++++++++++++ I have only two Campy derailleurs marked 13-36. One is the Gran Trashmo, which is huge and also says 36 - 54 on the same line. They are pretty good paperweights, if cleaned up, span late 60s early 70s, sent to the rest home for stupid designs when the Crane came out about 72 (?).
The other is the so-called "steel" record, which went from about 60 or 62 to about 68 -- but the date can be checked in the catalogue. This unit is relatively rare, in my opinion, because it predated the bike boom(s) that flooded the US with NRs with the same geometry. On the steel record, the parallelogram plates are steel, but the upper pivot assembly is brass, chrome-plated. The original rollers (which I love) were metal, with ball bearings and adjustable play. It takes the same hanger bolt as the earlier Gran Sport, which is different from the one for the aluminum NR.
I'm happy to help out someone who has an extra GS/Record hanger bolt, to save it from being slingshot fodder. :-(
