When the second-generation Super Record rear derailleur was introduced in 1978, it had aluminum pivot bolts. Campagnolo was concerned about the worldwide market price of Titanium at that time (it was fluctuating). They fairly quickly reverted to Ti pivot bolts, though. I've only seen 1978 and 1979 dated second-gens. with Al pivot bolts. Greg Parker Ann Arbor, Michigan

Listers,
Couple months back I came across a 1979 Campy SR Rear Derailleur that had
Campy stamped aluminim Alloy pivot bolts. What is history of such? For some
reason I thought they were an after market addition.
I knew that OMAS made some after market alloy ones, which I assumed,
perhaps falsely, were more common than the Campy ones. However, in my experience
I
have seen about 4 different Campy SR derailleurs with the Campy alloy bolts,
and only one OMAS bolt kit that contained their version of the alloy pivot
bolts.
Is there a catalog number for the Campy alloy pivot bolts? Did they come
"stock" that way in a box, or were they seen OEM on bikes? I have many miles
on one Sr derailleur that has the larger lower alloy pivot bolt and never had
any problems with it bending/performing etc. Can the same be said about the
upper alloy pivot bolt? Can the same be said of the OMAS versions?
I have heard a lot of speculation that the upper one will always
"pull-out" of the frame, it happened to my cousin's brother, etc., etc., but
nothing
in first hand based reality.
Does anybody have/ride with these alloy items? When was their
manufacturing dates? Any and all help much appreciated.
cheers-
