Dale as a teen I had a friend who did just this same paint restoration operation with vaseline on bikes and even on the face of a Hallicrafters shortwave I bought from him. He used a very fine brush. I can tell you that he was very patient and the results were great-border defintion was sharp as can be!

When I was in the Navy in John Kerry swift boat days (!) we used to paint stuff by prepping thoroughly, then, using small paint brush & great care, covering the surface not to be painted with Vaseline! Then spray paint. Let dry & wipe off, VIOLA!
