I have a pair of original DA wheels I bought used (can't remember where or when), ran on the Koga Miyata for several years, and now have on the all-Dura Ace early 70's Flandria team replica whose wheels were nonoriginal. No problems. I also don't remember there being any discussion "in the day" of any particular durability problems with Dura Ace hubs. Maybe some badmouthing by Campy distributors, but they also badmouthed Normandy Competitions, and that wasn't true either. I suppose there could have been materials or manufacturing problems with a batch or two of DA hubs, but that would be uncharacteristic of Shimano, whose quality control is usually excellent.

I've generally had good luck with my Dura Ace parts as far as durability and function, but I know Steve Maasland had some 1st generation hubs whose bearings became toast in a very short time. This makes me nervous about the three sets of oil clip Dura Ace wheels I have now, but so far so good.
What has been the lists experience with the durability of early Dura Ace wheel bearings? Where there a particular year or model that didn't hold up?
