What's special about this Huret RD?
Sort of cool looking, but I don't recognize the model. I was going to bid $27, but the price jumped from $17 to $62 in the final 30 seconds. The much feared Japanese collector aki-3864 was outbid by no less than three other bidders. High bidder was another Japanese collector. This must be that illusive last bit to complete a 50's era Rene Herse or something.

This was, I believe, the first commonly available Huret FD with adjustment screws for both travel directions. It was much easier to set up, but sacrificed the ability to change the cage angle to match the outer ring's diameter. The earlier models used a shaft mounted to the parallelogram. One first adjusted the outward throw by sliding the shaft, and then adjusted the inner limit with its adjustment screw. I believe this is late 60s at very earliest. I did not look closely, but since seller was obviously taking apart a Schwinn, it may have been sized for 1" seat tube. Or, it may have been wanted, as Jerry suggests, for completing a French bike with brazed on nuts to receive the front derailleur, instead of a clamp.
