Greg,

I will try to shed some light on your Celo Europa.

I seem to recall the Colnago Mexico was made of round, light, possibly straight gauge, tubing. It was made to set a record distance in one hour as was done in Mexico by Eddy Merckx.

The Colnago super was a road frame made of round Columbus SL or SP tubing.

Your Celo Europa sounds like it was brazed from Columbus Gilco tubing. The fluted top and down tubes are the clue. The frame was probably made by Colnago. It might be a Colnago Master with Celo Europa decals.

Marcel had a shop named Celo Europa on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) in Corona del Mar, California. I remember Celo Europas with headsets engraved with "Colnago" - They looked like Campy headsets. The rumor was that Marcel and Ernesto had a falling out. The shop closed years ago. I understand Marcel operates (or operated) another bike shop in Laguna Hills.

I have an early 80's Celo Europa Super Celo that I'd like to learn more about. It has crimped top and down tubes, Colnago engraved fluted seat stay caps, and club cutouts on the bottom bracket and head tube lug. The chainstays are stamped Colnago and the rear dropouts are also engraved Colnago. There is no sticker to indicate what tube set was used in it construction. I was recently told that the frame is a Colnago Mexico. I know about Marcel Calborne's relationship with Colnago and was wondering if he just sold rebadged frames or had them manufactured to his specifications? If my frame is a rebadged Colnago, is it a Mexico or Super? Attempts to talk to Marcel by phone have been futile. Any information will be appreciated.
