"Recently, a couple of other listmembers and I were comparing dropout and fork tip treatment for a mid-70s Serotta and a mid-80s Columbine. They were close enough to make you think the same person did them, but I don't know whether or not Ben Serotta and John Murphy had a similar "link" in their training."
sounds like a cool party lou!
what you're refering to is what happens when the
brass is not fully closing the end of the fork
and stay - it's recessed a bit. that is, more than
anything, the french way. french builders were notorious
about function over fashion and many/most simply used
enoigh brass "there" so that it all held together.
what you and your hood mates saw were variations on
that theme. the 'merican who did that better than
anyone else was bruce-issimo gordan; his brazing
in the "down-low" was quite righteous.
