A lot of people would say this is a big no-no. Seems like when I needed a fork the ones I'd find were an inch or two short. The thought crosses ones mind that it wouldn't take a good welder too much effort to add part of another steerer tube. Of course if the weld fails and the stem comes off with that portion of steerer, well, not good! If the stem wedge was in the original steerer it would seem safer. Any thoughts? Braze or tig weld? So far I just hold out for a fork from a bigger frame if I want a longer steerer. Requires a bit of patience when you ride 60+ cm frames and you want the fork from the same model 30 year old bike! Thanks.
