This transfer thing seems to be causing some problems...but a solution might just be to hand, Aldo.
I have a brand new never- been -built- up Girardengo from the 50s, complete with D/T transfers! I bought from a shop that was closing down about 25 years ago. The frame is finished in silver with chrome ends and lugs and red transfers. The problem is that none of the finish is in good nick, but the transfers are complete and sharp-edged. As the story goes.. the batchelor owner of this shop poured all his money into the business which was a true Mecca for the cyclists of eastern Lancashire.. and he even did mail-order way back in the early 50s.. was the importer of "Miroir de Cyclisme" "But et Club" etc. His shop was in an old building with lath and wattle ceilings and he used to hang all his frames and there were dozens of them from that ceiling. Eventually the inevitable happened - the ceilings collapsed.... While the building was being repaired all the frames were stored in the cellar, a not-too-dry place below ground level. "Ossie" the shopkeeper had so much stock that he tended to forget just what he had or where he had put it. And so it transpired that when he died and a couple of us offered to sort out the stock for auction purposes we discovered all manner of goodies down in the bowels of the earth, so to speak, including some excellent lugless Hobbs of Barbicons with Paris-Roubaix toothed drop-outs. That was where I found the Girardengo.. so the chrome plate has suffered badly.. and the silver paintwork isn't too great either.
The good news is that the finish is easy to replicate and the transfers too. Just a simple line design, one colour - red, in a shape that was very modern for the period. It always reminds me of the "Underground" signs for \London subways/Metro stations.
The problem is that I just don't know how to go about getting pictures on CR. Never done this sort of thing. I've got near on 160 bikes and frames of all types.. some very rare,, and i would love to spread the pictures out for the benefit of other collectors. My wife despairs that I will never manage to sell them on Ebay, should I wish to do so. However I have a friend more au fait with modern technology than myself.. so all is not lost.. but he will natter on about downloads and files. I tell him the only files I know about are in my workshop and used for cutting mitres on tubes..
I WILL try to do my best.. if there are CR members who need these pictures.
