Dear friends,

I am pleased to announce that I have made an arrangement with Jamie Carlin from Austin, TX, to tape my presentation at the first annual North American Handmade Bicycle Show. The working title of this seminar is "Introduction to Dinosaur Framebuilding 101". We hope to make this available on DVD for future reference and for those who can not attend. I'm very excited about this and hope that it will be of some use to many of you.

The purpose of this clinic will be to demonstrate through a series of props, the thinking process and actual steps in designing lug patterns and doing cutouts. In addition to that I will explain and show examples of lug filing and my personal approach to finishing lugs both before and after brazing. These are key elements in taking lugged framebuilding to the next level. I would love to do an actual live demonstration of these techniques, but unfortunately the circumstances will not allow that at this time.

I will also cover concepts of making a completely harmonious frame through attention to the other details like dropout/stay treatments and seat stay attachments using various methods, but mainly making caps by hand as opposed to using plugs. I do have one special set of custom stay plugs that I will share with everyone, however. I will include a primer on how to work with the paint scheme on a bike and how to develope a distinctive look and balance within that framework.

I am looking forward to meeting those who I have never met and seeing many of my long time friends again. This will be a unique opportunity for new and long time framebuilders alike to share information in a way that in the past almost never happened. Thanks to Don Walker and the organizers of this event, this may be a milestone occassion in modern framebuilding. See you all in Houston!
