What makes you think that Fausto Coppi would not resort to EPO, HGH or modern doping products if he were racing today?
Both Jacques Anquetil, the first rider to win five Tours, and Fausto Coppi, who won three, freely admitted to taking drugs, stating that it was necessary to survive the rigors of the sport.
"Youd have to be an imbecile or a hypocrite to imagine that a professional cyclist who rides 235 days a year can hold himself together without stimulants," Anquetil once said.
