If the pedals don't fit, then I presume the the TA cranks are French thread. You could restore the original pedals, which probably would have been French-threaded Atom 700's. Probably someone on the list has some to sell. Harris Cyclery has French-threaded Lyotard 45A's, probably not original but more or less period correct. Of course these are toe clip type pedals, not SPD or any other clipless type. Look pedals were made in French thread, although you probably would have more luck finding them from a European eBay seller than in the US, where most Look pedals were English thread. The chances of finding a French threaded SPD pedal, though, are probably pretty remote. French crankarms are easily tapped out to English provided you have the proper taps. A good classic-oriented LBS should be able to do this for you, if you don't want to buy the taps and take it on yourself. Personally, I never tap French cranks to English, preferring to use French-threaded pedals, which still can be found, but if you must have SPD, then retapping is probably the most practical thing to do.

The bike now looks a heck of a lot better but the pedals don't fit the TA arms. So, are there SPDs that fit or do I have the arms drilled and tapped to fit? Is there enough metal there?
