Hi guys,

I have a few old (1940s) track bikes, one of which has a Brooks B17 Sprinter saddle, while the other two have equally narrow Mansfield saddles. One of the Mansfield saddles is probably useable, but the leather on the other two has deteriorated. I note that Brooks still make the B17, as well as the B17N. However I see no mention of the B17 Sprinter... Is it vaguely possible to get a couple of these? Could I get my existing B17 sprinter recovered? Will it cost me the earth to do?

Regards,

Suzy Jackson Sydney Australia

Hello Suzy: There are used B.17 Sprinters available on eBay from time to time. Hilary just sold a good one recently, I believe. If you want a new Brooks saddle, probably the closest one you'll find will be the B.17N, which I, and probably several others on the list, stock. There is also the new Swallow, but it's pricey - about $300-400 US, and in very short supply, available only in antique brown as well.. There are saddle restoration specialists, but thus far I've not worked with any of them. Hopefully someone else will chime in on that possibility.
