I just recently bought a set of 1958 Campagnolo cranks on eBay. These cranks and chainrings are black. I know Campagnolo made cranks in black (anodized) in the 80's for BMX bicycles but this is first generation we are talking about. The pedal threads, extractor threads, spindle tapers, etc, are all solid black. The chainrings are black too. But I removed them because they are worn.
My questions: Does anyone recall Campagnolo producing a first generation chainset in black? How do I tell if this black color is anodizing or just a very professional paint job?
