I picked up a copy of "Bikelore: Some History and Heroes of Cycling" at a local bookstore and it has some good racing/rider stories and pics.

The one story about "Charly Gaul-Angle of the Mountains" was written by none other then Jan Hein. I also noticed some familiar names in the back of the book too. ;-)

Though i guess it might be hard to find a copy. unless another print run was made, since my says only 500 were made.

g.s. Faema rider Charly Gaul (Lux.) on his way to winning the 1958 Tour de France. Bike is a Learco Guerra... probably in the traditional silvery-beige metallic with cream panels and green pinstriping. Note the tiny bit of seatpost showing.

Spectacular, stylish photo. I would never claim to be knowledgeable about racing pre-75 or so, but this bike seems noticeably "modern" -- small flange Campy front hub, side-pull brakes with relatively short reach, large-curve fork blades, and what looks like a fairly tight rear end. I'm loving the downtube cage AND bar cage. Very handsome pic, complimenti!

Cheers,
