I use rubbing alcohol. I generally imject it near the middle of the grip with a hypodermic syringe, but it can also be insinuated into the ends if you pry the ends open with a thin screwdriver, drip it in, and keep twisting to distribute the alcohol.

Alcohol is also my one of favorite lubricants for installing them (hair spray being the other.)

There are lots of inferior knock-offs available, but they're generally a much softer, flimsier foam, not as comfortable and far less durable than the real thing.
