Hi Hugh, and members,

I have Jack Taylor 1968, Viscount 1976, and Japanese (Sportsman) Toei 1964 all lugless frames. And, I did have Katarura Silk 1968 lugless which I did a little racing. In 1960's I was told that the lugless frame could be stronger than some luggd frame per weight.

Can this be true? Some lugged frame can be weaker due to the fact the stress point where the edge of lug (strong double thickness) can concentrate all force to the tube wall to cuase damage athough the shape of lug trying to spread the force?

Again, I am no structual specialist about bike frame construction, so I have been wondering about this for those years......
