Subject: [CR]re: straw-man argument

I posted Joe privately on this matter, but since he posted the list as well, I wanted to post these links for others to see. The usual definition of a straw-man argument is as I described it: refuting an argument that was never made, or refuting a highly distorted version of an argument. It is an underhanded way of winning debate points, and you see/hear it all the time in politics. When someone uses this kind of fallacious argument, it's usually because they're weak on the facts, or have no real confidence in their actual position on something... and I'm not saying Joe did that..we're cool.

Classic-content: I never said I liked file-marks. And I *definitely* don't like brazing goobers, no matter how illustrious the marque may be. And others of my aquaintance feel the same...so arguing otherwise is a straw-man--at least in our case.

And *that* is enough of *that.*

Thanks.

Concerning Carlos Kleiber one of the greatest of all post-war conductors:

The glamour often associated with a conductor's life held no appeal for him; he preferred to stay at home in Munich. He once told Leonard Bernstein: "I want to grow in a garden. I want to have the sun. I want to eat and drink and sleep and make love and that's it."
