Peter Naiman said: I do not care if they are mentioned in the ad, and no, I do not agree, they should not be part of the total price. I admit I screwed up on that one sale, but what I object to is sellers on Ebay overcharging for shipping. They are entitled to the winning auction price and reasonable shipping charges, but not excess profits by overcharging on shipping.

Peter, $100 bid plus $100 shipping charges equals $200 total. No different from $180 bid plus $20 shipping, same $200. You just have to factor the shipping charge into the equation. Now, if the seller says actual shipping charges and then wants to add the $50 packing fee from the bike shop, the $20 fee from Mailboxes Etc, and the $20 for the cost of gas to go to town to ship, plus the UPS fee, that would be a surprise if not mentioned in the ad. Another reason why when in doubt, ask before you bid. I have no problem with high shipping prices if mentioned in the ad. Eliminates the ambiguity of "buyer pays all shipping fees".
