D.J: The sand blasting with etch the steel for sure...but too much! What usually happens is that the chrome comes off in sections, and as the bead "works" on the uncovered section, it eats away material at a more rapid rate than that still covered by chrome plating. The result is a mess, with all sorts of "plateaus" or "shelves" of metal surfaces... Best to sand off that chrome or let a plater chemically remove it.
